Pre-wedding Portraits

There’s alway a little bit of nervousness before I met any of my couples.  Usually I get the chance to meet my couples before they’ve booked me as their wedding photographer but sometime life and circumstance just get in the way. I’d never met or even spoken to Susie or Henry before we met in london for their pre-wedding portraits.  They had taken a complete ‘leap of faith’ by booking me without having met or spoken to me, that’s pretty brave of them.  But sometimes fortune favours the brave!

It was a stunning, but blinking cold (particularly for Susie and Henry who had recently flown in from Dubai where they live), day as I waited in the little cafe at Kenwood House. I love Kenwood House and Hampstead Heath, my wife and I used to spend a lot of time up there when we lived in London and it’s the prefect location for a pre-wedding portrait session.

Any sense of nervousness about meeting Susie and Henry disappeared pretty immediately once they arrived.  They were fun, relaxed, genuine and just a joy to spend some time with.  The main purpose of my pre-wedding portraits is for me to build up a rapport with the them and to make them feel comfortable with having their picture taken.  Having this rapport translates into some incredible photographs come the wedding day but it’s also important for me to capture some beautiful images during these pre-wedding portrait sessions. By doing so I build up the confidence and faith they have in my as their photographer and some couples often want to celebrate this magical time by using one of their pre-weedding portrait pictures as a sign-board at their wedding or having an album created from this shoot.

Susie and Henry were so at easy in font of the camera, they were just so genuine and real. We all had a great time, despite our fingers being pretty numb from the cold by the end of the session.  I can’t wait for their wedding at St Paul’s Cathedral at the end of the month.
