Maunsel House Wedding
Maunsel House Wedding Photography | Gillian & Travis
I’ve always wanted to photograph a wedding at Maunsel House, I’d photographed a fashion shoot here but never a wedding. It has a reputation as being a bit of a mecca for wedding photography so I was really excited to be shooting here and as an extra bonus it’s not too far from where I live!
I hadn’t met either Gillian or Travis before their wedding day, we’d had a couple of Skype calls but nothing more than that. It quickly became apparent on those calls that they are both very relaxed and were happy to just let me get on with my thing, just the way I like it, another reason why I was looking forward to this wedding so much.
Their wedding was amazing, genuinely one of the most moving and beautiful weddings I’ve had the privilege to photograph. There were just so many beautiful unscripted, ‘real’ moments. I know I’ve said it before but I’m happy to repeat myself, I love it when couples have their children at their wedding. Who wouldn’t want to have those closest to you at one of the most important days in your life? There’s also a wonderful chaos that children bring to proceedings, their presence seems to keep everyone grounded and focussed on the really important things. Those things being family, friends and the love they all have for each other and that was so evident here.
Gillian looks stunning in her Cymbeline dress. It was one of those dresses that always seemed to catch the light so beautifully, a total joy to photograph. Her Dad’s reaction to seeing her in her dress for the first time said it all, I don’t thing these was a dry eye in the house and that continued to be a common theme throughout the day. Also a massive shout out to Amy Elizabeth on make up and Rachel Lousie on hair, both amazing and a delight to be around making my job so much easier.
So before I let you get on with looking at the pictures I must just mentioned a couple of wonderful moment from their day. Travis’ Dad, Joe set the emotional tone for the day, his tears had us all crying (I think he even had me on the verge of it at one stage). There’s just something about a grown man being openly emotional, I love it, that’s how I want to feel when one day my children get married. Continuing on the emotional theme, a huge well done to Travis’ best men but particularly Davo, his tears said a 1000 words, legend! Lastly, Travis and Gillian have a very musical collection of friends and family but I think everyone was pretty surprised by just how much Travis rocked it when he took the mic in the evening. To have the bride and groom sings songs to each other was a first for me and it was awesome and quite a hard act for the band, Oliver Darling, to follow but they totally rocked it as well.
Maunsel House was everything I hoped it would be, there aren’t that many venues that offer both a collection of stuffed animals, live animals and machine guns (check out the machine-gun toting bride!) but more importantly there’s just something about the way the light falls in the rooms there, it just brings a bit of magic to the photos. In fact, I think if I was getting married all over again I’d love to do it at Maunsel House, it just has an eclectic charm that’s hard to find and hard to beat.
Here’s the story of Gillian & Travis’ wedding day at Manusel House.
