An album of portraits | portraits of an album
As a photographer, my craft certainly doesn’t stop the moment I’ve pressed the shutter – far from it!
The picture editing and album design process, for me, is as much a part of my creative process as the taking of the original picture. And what’s more, I love the editing and album design processes – it completes the creative circle.
I’ve always felt that photographs should be seen and I know that this might seem like an obvious and a bit of a daft thing to say – but with the mass adoption of digital photography, the vast majority of ones’ photographs never leave our hard drives to see the light of day. Facebook et al have certainly gone a long way to increasing the viewership and exposure of digital photography in general. Yet the resolution offered by most of these online services just can’t compare with a beautifully designed and printed fine art album. What’s more, an album becomes so much more than the sum of its parts – the pictures look absolutely stunning, the paper they are printed on is so so tactile you can’t stop stroking it, add to this the evocative smell and feel of the leather binding and you have so much more than just a picture – its an exquisite assault on the senses!
